形态描述：匍匐根状茎木质，被深紫色鳞片。稈散生，三稜形，高60-100厘米，直径4-7毫米，无毛，常粗糙。叶线形，向顶端渐狭，长30-40厘米，宽6-10毫米，纸质，无毛，稍粗糙；叶鞘纸质，长1-8厘米，在近稈基部的2-3个鞘紫红色，具约3个大小不等的三角形齿，无翅，在稈中部的具1-3毫米宽的翅；叶舌半圆形，短，通常被紫色髯毛。圆锥花序由顶生和1-3个相距稍远的侧生枝圆锥花序组成；支圆锥花序长3-8厘米，宽1.5-6厘米，花序轴与分枝或多或少被疏柔毛；小苞片刚毛状，基部具耳，耳上被微硬毛；小穗单生，很少2个生在一起，长圆状卵形或披针形，顶端截形或渐尖，长3-4毫米，紫褐色或褐色，全部为单性；雄小穗鳞片长2-3毫米，厚膜质，在下部的几片具龙骨状突起，具锈色短条纹，有时背面被微柔毛，顶端具短尖，在上部的干膜质，色亦较浅；雌小穗通常生于分枝的基部；鳞片宽卵形或卵状披针形，长2-4毫米，有时具锈色短条纹，具龙骨状突起，背脊绿色，顶端具短尖；雄花具3个雄蕊，花药线形，长1.2-1.8毫米，药隔突出部分长约为药的1/5-1/4；柱头3。小坚果球形或近卵形，有时多少呈三稜形，顶端具短尖，直径2.5毫米，白色或淡褐色，表面具四至六角形网纹，横纹上断续被微硬毛；下位盘直径1.8毫米，3浅裂或几不裂，裂片扁半圆形，顶端钝圆，边缘反折，黄色。花果期5-10月。
